Ellwood Thompson's Coffee Turns Off Wifi; Coffeeshop Embraces 1990's

In a bold effort to remove customers from their store Ellwood Thompson's Coffee has cut the wires on their wifi internet. The popular Carytown coffee destination announced that today their wireless internet would be disabled during the hours people typically frequent coffee shops. For weekday visitors this means no access from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm and from 4:30 pm to closing. Weekend customers will no longer receive complementary internet access between 10:00 am - 1:30 pm and from 4:30 pm to closing.

With Ellwood's taking this tragic step into the time machine of internet past, where will you enjoy your coffee and wifi?

Starbucks (there’s one just a few blocks from Elwood Thompson) allows two hours a day free if you have a card and Baker’s Crust (again, right up the street) has free WiFi.

Business Meetings

Fortunately Martin's across the street offers free wifi & great coffee. I'll know that if I schedule a meeting with a client to discuss web business the Martin's cafe will offer a consistent & quality experience.

This is a good move for some

This is a good move for some coffee shops and not for others. For Elwood's yes, because they can definitly make more money serving food.  The people who buy a cup of coffee and use WiFi for 2 hours, aren't really paying for the coffee. They are paying about 2 dollars to use the Internet and the coffee comes with it for free.

great move.  all the coffee

great move.  all the coffee shops here in dc are doing this as well.  although they seem to have gotten the hours backwards.  should be no free wifi nights and weekends and free wifi during the middle of the day on weekdays.  or not at all.  trust me, it will be better for business in the end.
